An Unusual Case of Conjoined Twins

چکیده
Conjoined twins are not a usual anomaly seen at birth and certainly people may have different or wrong beliefs about this malformation especially when seen for the first time. In this article, we review some important cases of conjoined twins in the history and we present a very rare case of parapagus united twins after an overview of literature. We will end up with a short discussion and conclusion. 1 Kabutare District Hospital, Southern Province, Rwanda 2 Clinical Anatomy Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, National University of Rwanda, 3 Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics, Kigali University Teaching Hospital, 4 Center for Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, National University of Rwanda, Key-words: Biddenden maids, siamese twins, parapagus Les jumeaux siamois ne sont pas une anomalie habituellement constatée à la naissance et ils peuvent susciter des convictions différentes ou erronées à des gens différents, surtout lorsque vus pour la première fois. A case of conjoined twins (thoraco-omphalopygopagus tribrachius tetrapus) in lamb
Sheep conjoined twins have been reported less than cow. An apparently female conjoined twin lambs was examined based on external and internal features. In radiology, two vertebral columns and two pairs of the ribs were seen. Only two heads and two necks were separated (thoraco-omphalopygopagus). There were three forelimbs (tribrachius), one of which grew on dorsal region as a notomelus. Teat b...
متن کاملSuccessful Surgical Separation of Thoraco-Omphalopagus Symmetrical Conjoined Twins in Iran: Two Case Reports
Conjoined twins are derived from the division of a single fertilized ovum; a phenomenon accompanied with multiple congenital anomalies. Such twins are identical, of the same sex, and more likely to be female. Most twins die during the embryonic period, and only 18% survive longer than 24 hours. There are complex anomalies in thoraco-omphalopagus twins that makes them unlikely to live long enoug...

We present two unusual cases of conjoined xiphopagus where separation was successfully performed. The first pair had a common heart and the second pair shared a common liver. The classification, embryology of conjoined twins and results of the surgery are discussed.
متن کاملAn unusual case of monozygotic epigastric heteropagus twinning.
Epigastric heteropagus refers to unequal and asymmetric conjoined twins in which the dependent component (parasite) is smaller and usually attached to the epigastrium of the dominant component (autosite). Epigastric heteropagus is a very rare type of conjoined twins. It is generally assumed that conjoined twins represent a form of monozygotic twinning, but there has been no confirmation of this...
متن کاملMonocephalus omphalopagus (tetrabrachius tetrapus) in a lamb
Caudal duplication is an abnormality which usually affects the digestive, urogenital and even respiratory systems. It forms a graded series from slight duplication to near separation of two fetuses caudocranially. In some conjoined twins, duplication process may cranially proceed up to the head region. This kind of developed conjoined monocephalus twin has been reported in many domestic species...

Dipygus is a teratological fetus with a double pelvis, genitals, and extremities. Congenital duplications in cattle are rare. Caudal duplication is more common in sheep and pigs while cranial duplications seem to be predominant in cattle.Asymmetric or parasitic conjoined twins consisting of an incomplete twin (parasite) attached to the body of a fully-developed twin (autosite). This report deals...
